HOW THE FOOD WE EAT CAN HIJACK OUR BEHAVIOUR THROUGH THE BRAIN

I was just sitting down to a break from writing training plans and had opened a packet of crisps to munch on when I stumbled across this on Youtube.

BBC presenter Dr. Chris van Tulleken embarks on a 30 day diet of highly processed food, and the results are shocking. We’ve seen this kind of thing before but what is really interesting about this, is the effects that the change in his diet had on the connections in his brain.

In this image below we can see the result of a brain scan on the Doc. The blue lines represent connections in his brain before the 4 week challenge. The red lines represent totally new connections that developed as a direct result of the changes in his diet.

These are the same kind of connections you see in people with heavy addiction – all caused by 4 weeks on crap food.

I finished the chips by the way, but that’s the last packet for me for a while!
