2025: A Year In Numbers

2–3 minutes

read

42.9kph:

The average speed of the 2025 Men’s WorldTour, making this the fastest season ever recorded. Racing didn’t just look quicker — it was quicker, with the peloton spending less time rambling and more time fully a-rumblin’.

271:

The total number of Yellow Cards dished out in 2025. No, not Visma Leas a Bike Xmas cards, rather these are cards issued for ‘ill-disciplined or unsporting behaviour’ by the UCI. Of the 271 yellow cards issued in 2025, 114 went to riders, 46 to team staff, and 53 to sports directors. The remaining offences involved other members of the race convoy, including moto drivers, media personnel, TV crews, and race organisers.

8:

The number of Yellow Cards handed out to Bora-Hansgrohe in 2025, making them the Official Bad Boys of the World Tour.

76:

Belgians in the World Tour, making this not large nation the worst represented in the top tier of cycling.

15:

The number of teams with a Belgian on board – and considering there are 18 teams, that’s good going!

20:

Victories to Tadej Pogačar, asking the ultimate ‘Do you even ride bro?‘ to those other blokes who call themselves pros. Tour de France yellow, another Lombard, and an air of inevitability that forced rivals into desperation rather than strategy. He was so good at the Tour that he got really bored.

 11,680:

That’s the points haul of Pogacar in 2025, more than double that of runner-up Jonas Vingegaard and third-placed Mads Pedersen. It’s nearly  almost identical to the 11,655 he scored last year. Who said ‘robot’?! Hush now.

19:

Norway’s increase in riders at the top echelon, the biggest increase in representation with 29 riders in total. This is 19 more riders in the WorldTour for 2026 than the 10 they had in 2025.

1: The number of top-tier riders fired for abnormalities: Oier Lazkano of Bora-Hansgrohe was provisionally suspended on Oct 30th by the UCI due to biological passport abnormalities between 2022 and 2024 (when Lazkano was a member of Movistar). Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe announced he was no longer part of the team in light of the suspension.

Oi oi, Oier!

97:

Wins came from UAE Team Emirates–XRG, spread across 20 different riders. Depth, precision and ruthless execution defined their season, including 17 GC wins and a haul of national titles that underlined their total control of the calendar.

Del Toro wins on his way to losing…

56.671kph:

The fastest average speed ever recorded in a WorldTour time trial, thanks to Josh Tarling.

365:

Injuries. Faster racing means higher risk, and 2025 proved the WorldTour is as brutal as it is brilliant.

1,000,000:

The number of well wishes I send out to all of you who follow and read my scribblings, may your Xmas be fluffy and kind!
