Here’s something kinda crazy: the road race route for the World Masters Games in 2025 goes right past my house. The start line is 26km away and the route to get there, along the ocean, will also host the time trial events. The finish for the road race is 19km from my house, atop a hill I ride up very often (read more about cycling up Yangmingshan here).

If you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I retired from serious racing almost a decade ago – wow, just added that up, that is a stretch – but, with these Games being in Taipei, and with both the road and TT events being so close to home, I figured I have to take part!

Imagine riding to and from a world championships race, from your very own front door?

Well, imagine leaving home for a race on your doorstep and returning hours late a World Champion?!

I’m going to be writing a series of articles about all the routes, from the mens to the womens events and on the various age cat races. I’ll be providing detailed breakdowns of the routes, and offering pointers on how to train for these events.
