Ah, happy days!
I’ve been coaching Taylor Price, who originates from Utah and now lives in Shanghai (he does something high up at Specialized China), for years. I first met him at the Tour of Friendship stage race in Thailand, 11 years ago, back in 2013.
I managed to win the race and I remember him introducing himself on the last day, and then we started chatting about training. I’d just begun my journey as a coach, and soon I was writing his training programmes.
He’s blossomed in that time to go on to be a very strong rider indeed, and one of the strongest in China, where an emerging race scene has produced, and still does, some quality riders.
He went through a bit of dip in 2023, traveling a lot between Shanghai and Utah, but at the end of last year has started to come back, loading up with a bunch of everyone’s new favorite, Zone 2!
By the way, Zone 2 was something we all did back in the day, without knowing it was a zone – to us it was just January to March, coming back after getting too fat during the break, and being unable to push anything more than 70%…
Back to TP: in his first race in China since 2019, held last Sunday, he only went and knocked it our of the park and won! Ostensibly leading his team mate out, he pushed that hard that the guy behind couldn’t come round him – and victory at the Tour of Nanjing was his.
Great result!

Now, to top that off and to show off his great DNA… his son won his MTB race and his daughter was 3rd in her first ever race, both back in Utah.
Does it get cooler than that?

Well done Price Fam!
