As you may or may not know, I am the founder of a cycling tour company called Taiwan KOM Tours, and we are specialists in tours here in Taiwan, and specifically in designing tours centring on the Taiwan KOM Challenge.
The KOM Challenge was originally a once a year (October) event and it started to become popular internationally around 2016, and became a ‘bucket-list’ around then, and even more so after GCN first came out here. I know all about this side of things: I was responsible for inviting GCN out here in the first place, as part of my role as Comms Director for the event.
The KOM October event became so popular that we then decided to also hold events on the exact same route, but with a longer cut-off time (9 hrs compared to 6.5), so that more people could experience the fantastic beauty and epic journey up the mountain.
Just before Covid hit, I set up the Taiwan KOM Tours company, and we just had our very first full KOM tour last October, when we had 12 clients come out to take part. We had a great time, everyone stayed safe and rather wonderfully, everyone successfully completed the KOM!
And so, this year we will have three KOM tours:
- Spring ‘Road to Taiwan KOM’ Tour / 7 days / March 6th-12th
- Summer ‘Road to Taiwan KOM’ Tour / 7 days / June 16th – 22nd
- Taiwan KOM Challenge Tour / 8 days / October 19th – 26th
