MOVISTAR’S IVAN SOSA ATTACKED BY GUN-TOTING DRIVER

In what was no doubt a terrifying experience, Colombian pro Ivan Sosa had a run in the a lorry driver who attacked him with a hand gun, leaving him cut and bruised – and he himself may face charges for damaging the truck’s windscreen with a well-aimed rock.

The 25 year old, joined the Spanish WorldTour team last year from Ineos Grenadiers, was riding near Chinauta, Cundinamarca when the incident happened at midday yesterday.

The lorry driver allegedly passed by Sosa too closely for his liking, who gesticulated, to which the driver responded by firing his (licensed) revolver in the air several times. He then got out of the cab and hot Sosa with it.

Police stopped the driver, who claimed that Sosa had squirted water in his face, before throwing a stone at the lorry’s windscreen, breaking it. Both face charges.

A strong climber, Sosa won the Vuelta a Burgos in 2018 and 2019.

He also won the Tour de la Provence in 2021 and after moving to Movistar last year, and triumphed in the Malaysian Tour de Langkawi.
