If it’s a known fact that meat is contaminated in that country, then they should drop the case, and let the riders carry on, there’s nothing worse than a cyclist passion for the sport to be destroyed.
If he’s not guilty then drop the case, don’t drag it out …

alternatively, don’t eat beef in that country and be aware that every rider bears responsibility for what is in his system at all times. if you just scrap the law for China, anyone there or going there could abuse the drug.

The european horsemeat scandal proved that you cannot be certain of the origin, content or even species of meat. Every supermarket was victim to meat products containing banned horsemeat from a wide range of origin countries and the supply chain is so complex it is almost impossible to know. In europe at least it is possible to buy good grade meat and actually be eating something else completely, from countries in origin both inside ant out of eu. in the far east it is bound to be worse.

I pity the cyclists that have to take such decisions.

As a racer over in that part of the world, what do you do if anything to avoid this kind of thing? you never eat beef? Taiwanese meat is safe? are low-level positives for Clenbuturol a common occurance? Should Richard Meeker start importing chinese beef?

Buy as close in the supply chain as you can, preferably straight from a farm shop? Avoid all processed meat?
Hard to know. But for a year over here the stories kept coming and There was almost no part of the food supply chain unaffected. For people like me who just ride for the love of it, and being out in wild country , feeling the wind rush by, and never race – we are lucky it does not affect us. Had bertie had problems last year in europe, I doubt if the charges could have stuck, there would have been outrage. ( assuming again they would not allow Ashenden to present the bag plasticiser evidence, another story!)
