With respect, Kirk Willet never rode the Tour de France.
Racing in the US domestic scene has never and will never be harder than Europe.
Moral absolutes are the easiest sell. Just ask George Bush.

You’re right, maybe if he’d doped he’d have got on Postal.

Hey, whatever happened to the interview with that sanctioned doper you met on facebook and went out for a ride with? Also, I went digging around your writings online and I was really looking forward to more instalments of your racing in japan series as it was a really interesting memoir to read about! Might be a more lighthearted topic to write about too!

You can check Fignon’s one meanwhile. He doesn’t admit to cortisone or amphetamines (directly) but he did admit to cocaine.

I raced with O’Grady in a State Title in Adelaide back in his CSC days. He won and then hung around after to give out the awards and gave a speech to the juniors about training hard and working to achieve your goals etc etc. How could you not like the guy after a day like that, it was inspiring to the average hack. But to turn around now and say I tried it once but didn’t inhale is a bit of a slap really. At the end of the day, any rider other than those that were vocal advocates of anti-doping to the point they were shunned by their most loved (not just cycling) in the EPO era will carry a sense of lingering suspicion.

PS. why has crankpunk started using upper case? performance enhancing shift key?

i raced with good guys too, nice people, who were later busted for EPO. they stood there when i congratulated them on their hard effort and took it and smiled, then they were on cyclingnews for positive tests. leaves a bad taste.

I’ll take issue with one premise – that we as fans are guilty or the cause of doping. I think the former head of UCI was the one who said he couldn’t get doping out of pro cycling because the fans wouldn’t accept a TdF run off at an average of 25 kph. Bull. The fans (or at least me) want to see a RACE, racer against racer giving their all. Do I care if they’re going 15 kph up the climb vs 25? No, what I care to see is the competition. Blaming fans for cheating is silly, right up there with saying tough races cause cheating. In a world where guys will spend hundreds of dollars on EPO to win a race where the prize is a salami, DON’T blame the fans, blame the cheaters.
