The book ” the death of MP ” makes very sad reading.
The fascinating thing about Pantani is how the Italian public still revere him, even knowing the truth.
Our sport always has had double standards, in the case of some they are considered products of their era so obliged to go along with it all – so their victories were still laudable. In the case of others they are pilloried as cheats with no other merit who could not have won but for dope. in reality they are little different except in whether they were ” liked”.

Ricco was an obnoxious git. But are his crimes really different from say george hincapie , except that GH was lucky to be part of richer teams who were better at cheating,so still allowed to finish his last TDF already known as a cheat. Big george was “liked”

We are all a part of the problem to some degree, including the fact that cycling has no justice, or consistent way of viewing the history of riders.
