excuse my ignorance … but why is it not possible (or is it) for a Pro rider to fill in a form sating that he has knowledge that rider xxx doped or is doing and send it to the relevant people signed ‘a pro rider anon’ ? then it will be the job of those persons, who are paid or assigned to do the job, to check.

Hushovld was also an obvious doper.

As if selling more bikes is the sole measure of whether someone was good for the sport.

Apparently so. I’ve heard many an industry man say exactly that. Money talks.

I think it is more complicated than this. Though through fraud, LA did bring attention to the sport to cyclists and non-cyclists alike; he was a household name. Commensurately, wages, appearance fees, and bonuses increased for the top riders. In the US, TV coverage of cycling increased during his heyday, So yes, money talks; we are talking about the PROFESSIONAL aspect of the sport, not the club level…

Yes and Germany by starting WWII forced us to ramp up our economy bringing us out of the depression. I guess Armstrong and Germany deserve our praises

A bit of a cheap comment on Cavendish – his point related the relegation a stage or two earlier where Hushovd carried on like a pork chop when Cavendish merely held his line and the judges sided with Hushovd’s antics to most people’s dismay.

Otherwise, good article: Hushovd is trying to have it both ways.

Point taken Tricky, though Cav himself has a history of blaming everyone else when he doesn’t win too. Thanks for the comment.

I’m with CrankPunk on this one. Cavendish is the most ungracious loser (and winner), he seems to think he has a God given right to be allowed an easy run in. In contrast, on the day in question, Hushovd showed real determination and ability to mop up those points, he wasn’t the lucky beneficiary of a high speed train ride. I would rather be on a team with the big Norwegian any day of the week.

I think that I do not respect him anymore. The reason for this is that he should have been twice is good after the EPO use was done. This makes me now suspect him of having used it himself. This type of strong defense and offense is very reminiscent of other people who were guilty trying to point the finger elsewhere. Is a form of dirty version called I am rubber you are glue. The business about blaming Bassons is horrid. During his career I felt he was a clean writer but now I have grave suspicions about his honesty his character and whether he doped. He is so motivated to bring other people down in order to boost himself something is clearly wrong here.

Another good piece cp. I think it’s possible that hushovld didn’t dope, but improbable. Honestly wouldn’t you just be so pissed off if you had raced clean to hear of all the guys you competed against…taking your glory…
…. your prize money…taking your opportunity….being on the juice. I now think given his comments on bassons, his lack of criticism of LA, his respect for the omerta, and the fact when they thinned out the dopers, hushovld hardly saw the podium…..that’s its likely he was at it.

He didnt “nearly see The podium” after the dopers were thinned down, he had his best year. He won the World Championship in 2010, and had maybe his best TdF in 2011. It was only after the Armstrong era he started doing well as an allround cyclist, instead of just being a sprinter. He won the occasional victory, but was overshadowed by people such as Zabel and Petacchi.

I don’t like his comments at all – very disappointing for a rider I usually enjoyed watching. However, I guess epo would make much less of a difference to a protected sprinter who can draft for the majority of the day rather than a climber (or even a domestic who’s supposed to get out there and take the wind, track back and fwd to the team car etc…), so maybe he’s clean. But oh, Thor…..
