Cycling Weekly of the UK did some investigating into Tour team tires, and came up with a number of 350, which seems a lot – but no, it doesn’t, when you think. about it – so I calculated for myself and it’s much higher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vittoria-sponsored teams (eight of them say CW, it is in fact 6) swap out roughly 32-56 tyres per squad across the race \u2014 call it 270 Vittorias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UAE Emirates-XRG, on Continental’s GP5000 TT TR, reckon they’ll get through 30-40 tyres themselves, purely based on road conditions and damage rather than a fixed schedule. Average 35 per team, 6 teams using them, this is 210. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that’s another 9 teams using say 36 tires per team, which is 324.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand total approx. 804 tires per tour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conti’s TT TR tire is 110 euro.

So we are talking roughly 88,440 Euros spent on tires at this year’s Tour!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
